BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Golf course industry mapping and information specialist TerraVea is pleased to announce the addition of Leica's High-Definition 3D Laser Scanner, the ScanStation2, to further enhance TerraVea's golf course greens surface terrain modeling services for renovation or restoration.
The Leica ScanStation2 is a significant leap forward in three-dimensional mapping capability, with benefits for owners, managers, designers and builders. It is now possible to 3D model the greens with high accuracy and in high definition. The laser scanner captures all the subtle undulations and character of the green's playing surface, as well as the surrounding trees, bunkers, cart path, buildings and any other feature of the course. Signature design assets and historic features can now be documented and protected.
Prior to 3D Laser Scanning technology, mapping a green surface for contour and slope was done by interpolating the topography from a limited number of survey points manually acquired by GPS or Totalstation. The ScanStation2, the most productive scanner available with the ability to map 50,000 points/second, can blanket the greens surface and surround with millions of 3D points.
In addition to the laser scanner, TerraVea employs state-of-the-art RTK-GPS, Robotic Total-station and aerial photogrammetry to complete their 'tech tool-box' for golf course asset information services. Mapping and modeling the complex landscape and infrastructure of the golf course requires a combination of complementary tools and methods to produce a comprehensive asset model.
TerraVea is an innovator in golf course information solutions applying the latest geographic technologies to deliver a strong Return-On-Investment. With over 20 years of mapping and asset information solution development and deployment, TerraVea is equipped to provide golf course owners nationally with the advantage they need to operate profitably in difficult economic times.
