With the LPGA breaking in new stars, old stars resurfacing and Annika Sorenstam in a slump, this year's McDonald's LPGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola should be the most interesting in years, says host Dave Berner. Guest William K. Wolfrum says look for Lorena Ochoa over the big names like Karrie Webb and Annika. Wolfrum also expects to see Michelle Wie in the hunt, hot off her men's U.S. Open qualifying round at Canoe Brook Country Club.
Meanwhile, Shanks recently played the host course, Bulle Rock in Havre de Grace, Md., and has a review for listeners. After all, it's a public track you can play! Look for the field to struggle with the long, uphill par-4 5th hole, and the water-lined 18th, another par 4, Shanks says.
Sure, watching the final round of the U.S. Open makes for a special Father's Day for golf lovers. But if you're trying to figure out what gift to buy a golfing dad, this holiday can carry a good bit of anxiety with it too. Kiel Christianson has a list of good ones.
For apparel, Kiel recommends Sun Mountain rain gear made with breathable RainFlex fabric, and Dunning Golf's diverse line of golf shirts. If Dad needs a bag, check out the Club Glove Aficianado III stand bag. For a dad who's got everything (and we mean everything), consider the P3ProSwing golf simulator/swing analyzer which starts at just under $700. Lastly Kiel recommends getting Pop a sleeve of the new TaylorMade TP Red (larger core, thinner mantle) or TP Black ( thicker mantle for greater carry and distance) golf balls.
Premier Golf's Jim Ward talks about the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. "The golf is fantastic and now more than ever, since they've opened up the new Sanctuary hotel there, the accomodations are matching the golf," Ward says. "It's just a great experience."
Lastly, a golfer goes into a confessional and says, "Forgive me Father, for I have sinned ..." Let's let Dave finish it!
