CordeValle slated to hold Stocker Cup Invitational Qualifier

SAN MARTIN, Calif. -- CordeValle, A Rosewood Resort proudly announces that it will hold the Stocker Cup Invitational qualifier on September 29, 2009. The qualifying event at CordeValle is the only way, besides receiving an invitation, to compete in this prestigious amateur golf tournament.

"We are honored to hold this qualifying tournament and to be associated with the Stocker Cup and the legacy of Peter Stocker," said CordeValle's Director of Golf Operations Travis Skeesick.

The number of qualifying spots available in the Stocker Cup will be determined by the size of the qualifier field at CordeValle. To enter, players must be age 25 by the first day of the tournament and hold a verifiable USGA Handicap Index of 3.4 or lower.

"CordeValle offers a challenging layout that shares many playing characteristics with the Stocker Cup's host course, The Preserve," said George Kelly, co-chairman of the Stocker Cup Invitational tournament committee. "It's an ideal venue to hold our qualifier."

The Stocker Cup Invitational is held each year in memory of Steve Stocker, who died in a tragic helicopter accident at Rancho San Carlos (since named the Santa Lucia Preserve) near Carmel Valley in 1990. In 2000, the event moved to its permanent new home at The Preserve Golf Club within the Santa Lucia Preserve. The Stocker Cup has established itself as a prestigious annual amateur golf tournament on the West Coast that attracts a field of top amateurs from throughout the country and abroad. In 2001, the Stocker Cup became the first annual amateur championship held in the state of

California to achieve national stature when the tournament became a Golfweek/amateurgolf.com World Amateur Rankings points event.

The practice round and 54-hole Stocker Cup Invitational will be held October 21 - 25, 2009. For questions or to register for the Stocker Cup qualifier at CordeValle, go to www.amateurgolf.com/tour or call 760-929-9297. For more information on the Stocker Cup Invitational, go to www.stockercup.com.
