TORONTO, Ontario -- On June 12, sports legends, celebrity athletes
and more than 40 socially responsible companies will take to the course for
the 5th annual Invest in Kids Celebrity Golf Classic to raise funds to help
Canada's youngest children get the best possible start in life.
"Far too many Canadian children, from all corners of our society, have a
social, emotional or learning problem that is due in part to a lack of
positive parenting," says Nancy Birnbaum, President & CEO of Invest in Kids.
"By participating in the Invest in Kids Celebrity Golf Classic these
celebrity athletes and legends help bring profile to a pressing issue," she
adds. "And, for a growing number of companies looking to expand their
corporate social responsibility efforts, participation in the Invest in Kids
Celebrity Golf Classic allows them to better serve the communities in which
they do business. Together, the celebrity athletes and companies will help us
provide parents with the resources and services they need to be positive
parents, actively supporting their children's healthy development."
The 5th annual Invest in Kids Celebrity Golf Classic takes place June 12
at Glencairn Golf Club in Milton, Ontario. Yvan Cournoyer, Ron Ellis, Peter
Mahovlich, Todd Brooker, Dale Hawerchuk, Vicky Sunohara, Bobby Hull, Wendel
Clark and Sami Jo Small are among the 50 celebrity athletes and legends who
will golf in support of Invest in Kids.
In all, more than 200 golfers will play for fun and prizes. A variety of
contest holes and a live and silent auction will add to funds raised. Among
the many things on the auction block are two trips for 2 to the U.S. Open
including two full-day passes for the final rounds at the Winged Foot Golf
Club in Mamaroneck, New York, June 17-18; roundtrip airfare with Air Canada;
and three nights at the Esplanade Hotel in White Plains, NY.
