MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Legends Resort, located in Myrtle Beach, S.C., will host Patriot Golf Day activities for the first time on Saturday, September 5, 2009. Legends' inaugural Patriot Golf Day activities will include reduced greens fees of $40 for locals on any of the three golf courses at Legends Resort (Heathland, Moorland or Parkland), and lessons with resort pros for just $10. In addition, the $40 greens fee will include golf cart, free range balls and lunch after the rounds.
All proceeds from the lessons, plus $1 from every round played on September 5, will go to the Folds of Honor Foundation. The Foundation raises money for scholarships for families of those killed or wounded while serving in the U.S. military. Since Patriot Golf Day was launched in 2007, more than $3 million has been raised by golf courses around the nation, and 200 scholarships have been provided.
In addition to special rates for the day, The Legends Resort will provide each golfer with a small American flag to place on the course. This activity should result in flags being placed all over the three resort courses, resulting in a unique salute to America for the Labor Day weekend.
Following are the activities for Saturday, September 5:
Locals Appreciation Day — Golfers who show a local ID that validates their residence in Horry, Georgetown or Brunswick Counties will receive a special rate of $40. This will include cart, range balls and lunch after their rounds. $1 of every round played on this day will go to the Folds of Honor Foundation.
Flag Golf Day — Each golfer is asked to add his or her handicap to a score of 72 to identify his or her "target" score (for example, 72 plus a handicap of 18 = a target score of 90). When golfers reach their target scores during a round, they will place a flag in the ground on the spot where they have reached that target score. Those who finish their rounds with scores that are less than their target numbers will place their flags in the ground directly behind the 18th green.
Tune-Up Minute Lessons (8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.) — Golfers can tap the expertise of Legends golf pros when they sign up for 10-minute lessons for just $10. All proceeds go to the Folds of Honor Foundation.
"Patriot Golf Day at The Legends is a great way for our resort and local golfers to support the families who have given so much for our country," said Legends' Head PGA Professional Matt Biddington. "We hope everyone will come out to play the course of their choice — Heathland, Moorland or Parkland. We'll give the Foundation $1 from every round played, plus all $10 from each lesson. We'll also be encouraging golfers to give more if they'd like. We guarantee a fun-filled day that will provide all of us with a unique opportunity to give back to those who serve and protect us."
