WASHINGTON -- Building on its success as the premier Pro-Net Tour in the Mid-Atlantic, the Tournament Golf Association of America (TGAA) is proud to its 2009 major championship winners.
Congratulations to Paul Hunt, Mike Neely and Fairley Poore for their fine play in winning the TGAA Tour's Old Dominion Invitational, TGAA Players Championship and the TGAA Summer Classic.
Paul Hunt, a six year member of the TGAA Tour and a single digit handicap player, captured the season's first major and the oldest major on the Mid-Atlantic schedule - the Old Dominion Invitational. The two-day, thirty-six hole event was played at the Ford's Colony Resort & Country Club in Williamsburg, VA. Playing on the Black Heath and Marsh Hawk courses, Paul was the only player to post a final score under par net, posting a score of net four under par and won $2,300 for his victory. This is Paul's third career major as he won the '04 and '05 Summer Classic majors.
Mike Neely, a five year member of the TGAA Tour and a single digit handicap player, captured the season's second major, the TGAA Players Championship. Mike posted a winning score of four over par net at the two-day, thirty-six hole event, to claim the title at the Compass Pointe GC in Pasadena, MD. Mike won the first major of his career and pocketed $1,950 for his victory.
Fairley Poore, a FIRST YEAR member of the TGAA Tour and a mid-teens handicap player, captured the Tour's most recent major, the TGAA Summer Classic. Fairley claimed the season's third major with a winning score of net even par at the two-day, thirty-six hole event at the Jack Nicklaus designed Rocky Gap Resort and Lodge in Cumberland, MD. Fairley's win at the Summer Classic was his first victory on the TGAA Tour and his first career TGAA major. Fairley claimed the first place check of $1,900 for his efforts.
The TGAA Tour's final major will be held October 9-11, 2009. Known as the "crown jewel" of the tour, the TGAA Tour Championship will be held at the P.B. Dye designed Virginia Oaks GC in Gainesville, VA. As the tour's only three day, 54 hole event, the TGAA Tour Championship brings the '09 season to a conclusion. Not only does this event prove to have the greatest purse of the season, it also is the final event for players to claim a spot in the Tournament of Champions and earn coveted points to win the Race for the Players Cup.
