NEW YORK -- LPGA golfer Cristie Kerr moved to #1 worldwide in Golfweek Magazine's Sagarin Performance Index Ratings this week. Kerr's ascension makes her the first American to rank as #1 in the nearly decade long history of the index. Established in March of 2000, the top spot was previously held by Annika Sörenstam of Sweden, Karrie Webb of Australia, and Lorena Ochoa of Mexico.
The Golfweek Sagarin Performance Index rewards overall player consistency, assigning a power rating to all players who have competed in a combined 10 events on worldwide tours over the past 52 weeks including the LPGA Tour, Ladies European Tour, Japan LPGA Tour and Dura med FUTURES Tour.
"My thoughts are clearly on the Solheim Cup this weekend but perhaps American achievements, such as topping Golfweek's Sagarin Ratings, can be an additional boost of motivation and team morale," said Cristie Kerr. "This is one of the most exciting tournaments of the year and while the European players are always a powerful force, we're hoping to walk away with a big win for the United States."
Kerr currently ranks #1 on multiple rating lists within the Ladies Professional Golf Association, as 2009 continues to materialize as a standout year in Cristie Kerr's professional golf career. Having recently surpassed the $10 million dollar mark in career earnings, Cristie is #1 on the Money List, Rolex Player of the Year, Scoring Average, Rounds Under Par, Top-10 Finishes and Birdies.
