CHASKA, Minn -- Y.E. Yang, who became the first player to track down Tiger Woods from behind in a major championship, captured the PGA Championship to earn the fourth and final berth in the most difficult tournament in the world to qualify for - the PGA Grand Slam of Golf - played at Bermuda's Port Royal Golf Course, Oct. 20-21.
Yang's first major title and second PGA Tour victory in 2009 came packed with several notable feats. Aside from ending Woods' remarkable 14-for-14 record in sealing major championships when the world's No. 1-ranked player held a share of the 54-hole lead, Yang became the first male Asian player to win a major championship. He did so by grinding out a gritty 2-under-par 70 on a long, windy Hazeltine National Golf Club course.
Yang's 72-hole score of 8-under 280, which featured a chip-in eagle on the par-4 14th hole and a birdie on the 18th hole Sunday, brought him home three shots ahead of Woods, who struggled to a final-round 75. Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy were five shots behind Yang.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf will once again air on TNT, where it is broadcast in prime-time to more than 89 million U.S. homes and an international audience of more than 100 countries. Comprised of the four major championship winners, the 36-hole PGA Grand Slam of Golf provides the best players in the world the opportunity to earn a spot in the most elusive and difficult foursome in all of golf.
Joining Yang in Bermuda are British Open Champion Stewart Cink, U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover and Masters Champion Angel Cabrera, who captured the 2007 PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
Past PGA Grand Slam of Golf Champions include: Cabrera, Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, Tom Lehman, Ben Crenshaw, Greg Norman, Nick Price and Ian Woosnam.
