NORTON, Mass. -- With the fourth-annual John D. Mineck DBC Junior Cup a little more than two weeks away, tournament organizers have announced the Team New England roster for the prestigious event taking place Sept. 5-6 at Boston Golf Club.
Representing Team New England will be a group of the region's top junior golfers hailing from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Team New England includes 14 boys and four girls: Ben Balter (hometown Wayland, Mass.; graduation year 2013), Chelso Barrett (Keene, N.H.; 2013), Andrew Fiorenzano (Jamestown, R.I.; 2010), Danny Guise (Greenwich, Conn.; 2013), Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.; 2012), Nick McLaughlin (New Castle, N.H.; 2012), Andy Mai (Suffield, Conn.; 2011), Chris Melvin (Medfield, Mass.; 2010), Evan Russell (Essex Junction, Vt.; 2011), Damon Salo (New Ipswich, N.H.; 2011), Joe Toland (White River Junction, Vt.; 2010), Nick Torrance (East Lyme, Conn.; 2010), Noah Walker (Norwell, Mass.; 2011), Cameron Wilson (Rowayton, Conn.; 2010), Megan Khang (Rockland, Mass.; 2015), Mia Landegren (Bridgewater, Conn.; 2013), Nicole Scola (Westerly, R.I.; 2013) and Isabel Southard (Sharon, Mass.; 2012).
Team New England will be captained by Dave Adamonis, Jr.
The John D. Mineck Junior Cup is named for its late co-founder, a long-time supporter of junior golf and the co-founder of Boston Golf Club who passed away in 2007. It will showcase 36 of the nation's top junior golfers ages 11-18 competing in 18 four-player, best-ball matches.
For the second consecutive year, the event will feature Team New England vs. Team USA and play in a Ryder Cup format. Last year, Team USA beat Team New England, 43-29.
Tee times will begin at 8 a.m. each day, with play to conclude at 1 p.m. on Sept. 6. An awards presentation will follow the conclusion of play, and the winning team will be recognized that evening during the Deutsche Bank Championship Sunday Celebration barbecue at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass.
The 2009 Deutsche Bank Championship, Sept. 1-7 at TPC Boston, features a record $7.5 million purse and a $1.35 million winner's check. It enters its third year as a PGA TOUR Playoffs event and is the second of four stops in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. Last year, Vijay Singh became the Championship's first two-time winner and won the FedExCup and its $10 million purse.
Deutsche Bank Championship week features professional practice rounds, the Red Sox Legends & Friends Pro-am and Military Appreciation Day on Tuesday; a Kids' Day and practice rounds on Wednesday; and the Championship Pro-Am on Thursday before the four-round, 72-hole PGA TOUR Playoff event takes place Friday through Labor Day Monday.
