One of my favorite semi-old Saturday Night Live characters was Billy Crystal's Fernando, who hosted "Fernando's Hideaway." In it, he interviewed celebs, both real and impersonated, plying them with his smarmy over-the-top Latin charm.

The catch phrase for the bit was, "You look mahvelous!" Crystal even put out a song by that title, which contained the line, "It's better to look good than to feel good."

This summer, as I have struggled to find playing time and struggled even harder to find a consistent swing, I have not felt terribly good on the course.

But thanks to some outstanding sartorial samples that have come my way, I have looked, if I do say so myself, simply mahvelous.

Some of the best of these slick golfing threads are two of the new House of Carrington Ice Feel polo shirts ($125). The Ice Feel line is made from a blend of Lyocell and Giza 45 Egyptian cotton. It's called "ice feel" because it has a "cool as the other side of the pillow effect." It also provides an easy care quality normally only found in polyester blends with a luxury hand feel only found in the finest shirts.

So today, as I was playing and reviewing a resort course in central Illinois, wearing a HOC polo, I not only looked mahvelous, but I also felt pretty mahvelous, despite humidity that was hovering around 95 percent.

Now, I must admit, that as I struggled to figure out what club to hit on a stretch of vexing holes on the back nine, my temperature rose beyond safe levels. But the shirt stayed cool.

If you can't swing like a pro, at least you can look like one.

And if you cut a sharp figure and maintain a sprightly pace of play, no one will care if your swing looks like a drunken giraffe playing hockey.
