Tiger Woods captures 70th career victory and fifth in 2009

Nike Golf athlete Tiger Woods won his 70th career title at the Bridgestone Invitational and is primed for the last major championship of the season, the PGA Championship. Woods' victory furthers the momentum that Nike Golf has enjoyed all summer with its athletes having won seven of the last 11 PGA Tour events played. Nike Golf athletes have produced six victories out of the nine PGA Tour events played since summer officially began on June 21.

Woods delighted the crowds at Firestone CC with his powerful 300-plus yard drives and spectacular iron play. In the second round, Woods averaged 325-yard drives with his Nike DYMO driver. One of the turning points in his final round came on the par-5, 16th hole, where Woods hit a nearly perfect 8-iron iron with his Nike Blades to just past the hole and his Nike ONE Tour ball spun back to within a foot of the hole. For the week, Woods ranked tied for second in greens in regulation, led the field in eagles and tied for second in birdies. Woods became the first player in PGA Tour history to win seven times on the same course.
