Qualifier hosts named for National Collegiate Golf Championship

IRVINE, Calif. -- Collegiate Golf Alliance (CGA), the premier collegiate online registration and golf event management company announced today that 55 universities have been selected to host local qualifying events for the 2009 National Collegiate Golf Championship. This year's NCGC program will offer local qualifiers in 29 different states. Defending student champions from Rutgers University, alumni, and overall champions from SIUE and faculty/staff champions from Southern Mississippi will try to defend their titles. USM returns for a 7th year of hosting, as do Pac-10 rivals USC and UCLA. University of Hawaii hosted for the first time in 2008 and has been accepted as a host school for 2009. The California based company has teamed with the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) to manage the 2009 National Collegiate Golf Championship. A 2-person scramble event for collegiate and university amateurs, the NCGC allows golfers to compete for their university to see who will be the 2009 National Champion. The Championship has three divisions: Student, Faculty & Staff, and Alumni & Community. For more event information, go to www.cgagolflinks.com/ncgc.asp.

New to the 2009 NCGC program is the inclusion of schools involved in The PGA of America's Play Golf America University (PGAU) program. The PGA of America supports the programs and services offered by CGA, and has included participation in the 2009 NCGC as a component of their program.
"The mission of PGAU is to get college students interested and involved in the game of golf. We see our relationship with CGA as a way to continue that mission, as CGA complements and brings an incredible element to this program." Stated Ron Stepanek PGA Director, Player Development PGA of America

"We are very excited to be able to expand the NCGC program to include the PGAU schools which will allow more schools the opportunity to participate and compete. The thrill of competing for your university is now available to more Students, Staff and Alumni. The excitement and competitive spirit will be at an all time high in 2009," stated CGA's President and CEO Mike Munson.

This amateur golf event is focused on university recreational golfers and consists of local qualifying tournaments held across the United States in the spring, summer and fall. Local Qualifying winners advance to the official National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas. The CGA and NIRSA promote and market the event to over 750 colleges and universities making this the premier recreational college golf event. LQ Host schools receive a sponsorship prize package valued at over $700 and sponsored player packages valued at over $60 per player.

Over the past seven years portions of proceeds of the Local Qualifiers have benefited the NIRSA Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides opportunities for students through professional development, research, scholarships and educational resources. To date, the NCGC program has donated over $28,000 for the Foundation. The 2009 NCGC program projects between 2,500 and 3,500 golf participants, and over 125 million web impressions.

Sponsors of the event include Matrix, Nike Golf, FRS, AlmostGOLF, American Hole 'n One, Cutter & Buck, GolfWorld, Golfsmith, and FSN West. To provide additional resources, CGA has appointed six regional managers to assist in the programming of campus golf events as well as help coordinate the national tournament.
