About Jekyll Island Club Hotel Jekyll Island is a place of extraordinary, harmonious balance; between land and sea; between humankind and nature. A majority of the island is a reserve for wildlife and a haven for visitors. Situated just off the coast of Georgia on a beautiful barrier island, this Victorian hotel is nestled among live oak trees festooned with Spanish Moss.
The island has miles of beaches and maritime forests and visitors often see wild deer, a variety of waterfowl, wild turkey and a variety of small game on this treasure of an island.
The Jekyll Island Club Hotel was recognized as a National Historic Landmark in
1978. Originally a hunting retreat for the nation's wealthy elite (J. P. Morgan, William Rockefeller), the hotel today is a unique resort with architectural character and a charming historic ambience. The hotel provides gracious accommodations, presenting 157 rooms and suites in five historic settings. Just as club members did a century ago choose from the Clubhouse (Main Hotel) or rooms located in other historic structures on the property. Enjoy modern comforts and the most beautiful surroundings.
With four courses and 63 unique holes of golf, Jekyll Island is the largest public golf course in Georgia. The Grand Dunes golf course, designed by Walter Travis, meanders around coastal Georgia's beach, swept with oaks and unique oceanfront landscape. The Oleander course, built by Dick Wilson in 1964 challenges players with unique doglegs situated 300 yards from the ocean. The Indian Mound course plays through pristine lakes and marshes. Designed by the legendary Joe Lee in 1975, this serene setting is named for the oyster shell middens deposited by Aboriginal tribes hundreds of years ago.
