Scottish golf course photographer Mark Alexander has released his first set of images taken at courses in France . Published online, the photos cover a series of Gallic courses which follow on from a momentous exhibition at the Open Championship where the Scot showcased specially taken shots of this year's host venue Turnberry.
The three French golf courses featured in the new collection are located in the central region of France surrounding the city of Poitiers and include Chateau Des Forges, Manoir De Beauvoir and Golf du Haut Poitou. The images will form part of a commissioned magazine article looking at the tantalizing link between cooking and golf in France .
Despite the culinary distractions, Alexander says he was pleasantly surprised by the standard of courses on offer. "Golf is still developing in France so it was good to see the high standards maintained by these provincial courses," he says. "Even more encouraging was the number of players taking lessons and enjoying their rounds. As a photographer, it can be difficult to capture an intimate shot of a course when the placed is packed with golfers, but it's certainly good news for the clubs".
The new collection coincides with a wider exhibit of golf course photography presented in St Andrews at the celebrated arts venue the Byre Theatre. This show includes shots from across Scotland including scenes from the Old Course in St Andrews, the ancient links course at North Berwick and Turnberry.
The French collection and the Scottish exhibitions dovetail with the launch of Mark's website (www.markalexanderphotography.co.uk) which includes photographic tours of golf courses in Scotland, America , Norway, Spain , Portugal and now France, as well as some of Mark's landscapes, reportage and commercial work.
