SAN DIEGO -- Graphite Design International (“GDI”) — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver shaft models on the PGA TOUR — announces that its YS-6 model was the most popular wood shaft model at the PGA TOUR’s Bank of America Colonial, according to the Darrell Survey.
Fourteen YS-6s were put into play at the historic TOUR stop in Fort Worth, Texas, which features some of the tightest fairways players face all season. The YS-6 is part of GDI’s YS family of shafts, which was recently expanded with the introduction of the YS Type II Series.
Also, three top-four finishers at the Colonial played GDI shafts. The players combined to shoot 27-under par while earning over $600,000 for the tournament.
“Leading the graphite wood shaft model count at the Bank of America Colonial shows that TOUR pros trust Graphite Design International, especially on a course as demanding as Colonial Country Club,” says Akio Karashima, CEO of GDI. “The tree-lined layout requires great accuracy as well as power, which is exactly the combination GDI shafts provide to professionals and weekend golfers alike.”
GDI once again led all shaft manufacturers on the Japan Tour, where 164 GDI shafts were in play at the Munsingwear Open KSB Cup – 56 more than the nearest competitor.
Last year, GDI shafts were used by 18 winners on the PGA TOUR and 42 winners worldwide, helping them amass more than $75 million in earnings. They were also played by PGA TOUR leaders in Total Driving (distance plus accuracy), five of the top-10 players in Driving Accuracy Percentage, four of the top-10 money winners, and top-10 players in the World Golf Rankings.
On the Japan PGA TOUR, GDI shafts were victorious 16 times in 2005 and have been the most-played brand for a staggering 112 straight tournaments, an unprecedented streak dating back to 2002.
