Gulf Shores courses continue their resurgence

GULF SHORES, Alabama – Nov. 3, 2004 – The Gulf Shores Golf Association with 10 signature golf courses and 32 miles of sugar-white-sand beaches has announced that Peninsula Golf Club is back in business.

Peninsula closed in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, which made landfall along the Alabama coast in mid-September. The sparkling 27-hole complex could have opened already but took this time to complete its fall over-seeding program. Peninsula is an Honours Golf-managed golf property.

“We are very pleased that 90 percent of our courses have renewed business, and the courses are looking and playing great,” says Mark Stillings, President of the Gulf Shores Golf Association and Director of Golf at GSGA member course Kiva Dunes Golf Club. “We’re getting great feedback from our players as they increasingly make their way back to our courses. It’s a relief to be putting Ivan behind us.”

Peninsula is an Honours Golf-managed golf property. The golf courses as a whole suffered little-to-minor damage, mostly downed trees and debris. Lost Key, a WCI-managed facility, is the only GSGA course yet to announce a projected opening date as access to Perdido Key is still very limited.

In addition to golf courses, many other businesses in the Alabama Gulf Coast resort area have made significant strides since the storm in mid-September. The area’s restaurant, retail and lodging inventory is also renewing business on a daily basis and increasingly accepting check-ins and future reservations. Similarly, the charter fishing fleet faired well with 95 percent of boats intact able to fish.

Of all the great coastal golf courses, Earl Stone's creation at Peninsula may be the most unique. This 27-hole layout set on beautiful Mobile Bay promises the golfer nothing short of an awesome experience. Situated on 820 secluded acres touched on two sides by the Bon Secour Wildlife Preserve, the Peninsula represents one of the region's most spectacular venues for Alabama golf. This masterful course winds through live oaks, cypress and natural vegetation, featuring more than 30 lakes and some of the area's largest white-sand bunkers and waste areas.

Numerous tee boxes are available to accommodate every golfer's skill level. Like its exceptional golf course, Peninsula's residential community has been planned and built to the highest standards. A full-service clubhouse plus swim, tennis and fitness center highlight the development which includes 1.2 miles of frontage on Mobile Bay. Peninsula will be the future home of residents who seek a private and secure quality of life. For more information call 800-391-8009 or visit www.peninsulagolfclub.com.
