COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn., captured the Boys Division title at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course with a closing-round 3-over-par 74. Lindsey Weaver of Scottsdale, Ariz., fired a final-round 2-over-par 73 to coast to a five-shot victory in the Girls Division at the Nationwide Insurance Junior presented by the Memorial Tournament.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Nationwide Insurance Junior presented by the Memorial Tournament was a 54-hole stroke play event held at The Ohio State University Golf Club - Scarlet Course. The tournament field featured 75 boys and 24 girls, ages 15-18, from 24 states, Mexico, Canada and Taiwan. The Boys Division played the par-71 course at 7,017 yards, while the Girls Division played the layout at 6,061 yards.
Wilson finished as the only player under par in the Boys Division with a tournament total of 3-under-par 210. Wilson's 2-under-par 34 on the front nine gave him a large cushion and despite carding a 5-over-par 40 on his final nine, the 2010 graduate eased his way to a five-shot win.
"It's big to finally win one," Wilson said. "I've been knocking on the door for so long. Everyone I knew had already won one of these and for some reason or another I hadn't. I had a good first round and never had to chase anyone this week."
Jordan Janico of Duluth, Ga., and Chad Merzbacher of Dublin, Ohio, finished tied for second at 2-over-par 215. Ross Frankenberg of Barrington, Ill., finished in fourth at 3-over-par 216. Daniel Stringfellow of Roselle, Ill., and Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky., rounded out the boys top five with 4-over-par 217s.
With a 3-over-par 216 tournament total, Weaver captured her fourth AJGA win and her first since the AJGA Las Vegas Junior in 2008. She carded a double bogey at the sixth and a 2-over-par 38 on the front nine to allow her pursuers to draw within one. However, birdies at Nos. 14 and 16 led to an even-par 35 on the back nine. The Nationwide Insurance Junior presented by the Memorial Tournament was her third AJGA event in the last month.
"It's hectic being on the road so much," Weaver said. "I got kind of home sick staying in hotels all the time, but it's worth it to play all these tournaments."
Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., finished in second with an 8-over-par 221 tournament total after signing for a final-round 3-over-par 74. Lauren Weaver of Scottsdale, Ariz., finished third with an 11-over-par 224 tournament total.
