Golf and fine wine is a combination that goes together hand-in-hand and visitors are being given the chance to enjoy the best of both worlds when they visit Golf du Médoc Hotel and Spa in France's historic Bordeaux region.
Situated among the vineyards of the Médoc between Bordeaux and the spectacular beaches on the Atlantic coast, Golf du Médoc's 36-hole complex offers access to some of the finest golf and wine tours in south-west France.
The resort's Chateaux Course was the venue for the 1999 French Open and is regularly ranked as one of France's top ten venues, and golfers can now take up the opportunity to enjoy a four-night stay at Golf du Médoc from just 435 euros.
The 'Green en Médoc' package is available until the end of this year and includes three rounds of golf on site, an informative tour of a Médoc Chateau and wine tasting and access to the resort's comprehensive spa facilities, as well as full buffet breakfast and a gourmet dinner.
Henry Martinet, manager at Golf du Médoc, said: "Great golf courses and great vineyards are rarely found in such close proximity.
"We believe we have something special to offer at Golf du Médoc, and the chance to combine wonderful golf, gastronomy and wine tasting is truly something for guests to savour."
The four-star resort, situated just 20 minutes' drive from Bordeaux airport, offers 79 rooms and suites, two restaurants, two 18-hole championship golf courses, fully equipped gym and spa and indoor swimming pool, and lies within easy reach of the hundreds of wine chateaux in the region.
Measuring 6,946 yards and featuring a mixture of heather and broom, water hazards and well-placed ditches, Golf du Médoc's Chateaux Course will remind visitors of the pure traditions of Scottish links golf.
The par-71 lay-out also staged the 2009 French PGA Championship in April, won by Michael Lorenzo-Vera, and the mixture of cleverly designed doglegs and fast, well-guarded greens make the course a constant challenge.
Built two years after its older brother in 1991, Les Vignes Course is a gentler but no less memorable test.
The 6,842-yard lay-out meanders through a regional mixture of moors and pines with the course becoming harder as the holes progress, culminating in a memorable wooded back nine offering a variety of tests.
Martinet added: "We believe we have the perfect recipe for the UK golfer here at Golf Du Médoc especially now that so many flights come in to Bordeaux from various locations in the UK. With 36 holes of challenging golf coupled with our knowledge of the best area in the world for wine, we can organise specialised wine tours and tastings to give an extra twist to a wonderful break in our region."
Golf du Médoc is easily accessible from the UK with airports including London Gatwick, Luton, Manchester, Liverpool, Southampton, Bristol, Dublin and Edinburgh all flying to Bordeaux.
