Golf artist Lee Wybranski will support his U.S. Open prints

PHILADELPHIA -- One Philadelphia-area native has put his artistic mark on several of this year's biggest professional golf tournaments, including the 2009 U.S. Open, which takes place June 15-21 at Bethpage State Park's Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Group W Art Works, the exclusive publisher of golf artist Lee Wybranski, announced that Wybranski will appear at the U.S. Open from June 11-21 to sign and personalize the limited-edition commemorative prints he created for this year's event. Group W Art Works designed the logo for the championship, and Wybranski, perhaps the most in-demand golf artist in America, has created 500 numbered silkscreen prints inspired by National Park Posters from the 1930s.

Wybranski also created the commemorative posters for all three 2008 USGA Open Championships, marking the first time these have all been created by one artist. In addition, Group W Art Works designed the 2008 U.S. Open logo, which appeared nearly everywhere on everything at Torrey Pines last summer.

In March of this year, Wybranski completed the third in an annual series of posters for the 2009 Shell Houston Open. The official tournament poster depicts the challenging 11th hole at Redstone Golf Club in a bold and graphic style inspired by racing posters from the early 1960s. Wybranski also created his second consecutive commemorative poster for the 2009 Senior Open (July 27 through Aug. 2 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.), and Group W Art Works designed the logo for the 2009 Walker Cup (Sept. 12-13 at the Merion Golf Club outside of Philadelphia).

Inspired by the great landscape painters, particularly the British watercolorists, Wybranski has been commissioned to create paintings for some of the finest clubs and organizations in the game, from Merion Golf Club to the United States Golf Association. "Our studio's work is characterized by a more traditional aesthetic inspired by the great genres and artists of the past," says Wybranski. "Our posters celebrate championship golf at the game's greatest venues."
Founded in 1995, Group W Art Works began working with the USGA in 2002 and has designed the logos for the 2004 U.S. Open (at Shinnecock Hills GC), the 2006 U.S. Open (at Winged Foot GC), and the 2007 U.S. Open (at Oakmont CC) as well as those for the 2008 and 2009 tournaments.
