FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (May 22, 2006) -- Topping a leaderboard that included 8
Titleist players among the top 10 finishers, Tim Herron edged Richard S.
Johnson with a birdie on the second hole of an all-Pro V1x sudden death
playoff to capture the Bank of America Colonial. Both finished regulation
at 12-under 268, edging fellow Pro V1x loyalist Rod Pampling by two shots
to give Titleist golf ball players another 1-2-3 sweep on the 2006 PGA
Tour. Pampling followed up his career-best performance of 63 on Friday with
consecutive even par 70's over the weekend.
It marked the fourth career PGA Tour title for Herron and the 60th golf
ball win across the worldwide professional tours for Titleist players in
2006, more than four times the nearest competitor with 13.
PGA TOUR NOTES: Seven players tied for fourth place behind Herron, Johnson
and Pampling, five of whom trusted Titleist for their success, including
full-line Titleist Staff players Ben Crane (Pro V1x), Arron Oberholser (Pro
V1) and Brett Quigley (Pro V1), as well as Nathan Green (Pro V1).
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the limited-field Bank
of America Colonial with 79 players(69%) compared to 12 for the nearest
competitor. Year-to-date, Titleist players outnumber the nearest
competitor by a 1,991-228 margin.
The victory was the 10th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2006 PGA
TOUR, twice the nearest competitor with 5.
Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the
iron (24), wedge (92) and putter (39) categories. Titleist Pro Titanium
drivers were a strong second in the field with 28.
The champion also relied upon a Scotty Cameron by Titleist prototype
putter, finishing among the Top 10 in Putts Per Round and Putts Per Green
in Regulation. The Colonial marks the PGA TOUR-leading 11th victory this
season by a player relying on a Scotty Cameron putter, more than three
times the nearest competitor with 3.
