ATLANTA (May 22, 2006) -- Zakiya Randall - overall champion of the Georgia PGA Junior Tour in 2005 - has qualified to play with some of America's best professional golfers at one of nine U.S. Women's Open Sectional Qualifiers to be played around the country from June 5 to 13. This marks Randall's first time ever playing in a qualifier for the U.S. Women's Open Sectional Qualifier.
Randall earned her spot at a sectional after shooting a 74 and earning the low-medalist title at the U.S. Women's Open Local Qualifier at Horseshoe Bend Country Club in Roswell, Ga., on May 15, 2006.
Randall shot back-to-back birdies coming down the final back nine at Horseshoe Bend to finish in a four-way tie for first place. She was the only and youngest resident of Atlanta to qualify.
Randall joined 47 professional and amateur golfers from Georgia and across the nation to vie for 13 sectional berths awarded at the local qualifier. The U.S. Women's Open and its qualifiers are open to professional and amateur female golfers with USGA Handicap Indexes of 4.4 or lower.
