Boyne Resorts earn top honors from Michigan Meetings + Events

BOYNE FALLS, Mich. -- It was a great night for Boyne at the Michigan Meetings + Events' Best of 2009 awards gala held Wednesday, May 13, at the new Westin Book Cadillac in Detroit. Each of the Boyne resort collection, including Boyne Mountain in Boyne Falls, Boyne Highlands in Harbor Springs and The Inn at Bay Harbor - A Renaissance Golf Resort located in Bay Harbor, took home top honors in three separate categories. Boyne Mountain for Best Resort, Boyne Highlands for Best Golf Venue, and The Inn at Bay Harbor for Best Hotel with Meeting Space (200 guest rooms or less division).

The Best of 2009 list was determined by a record number of reader votes from the state's premier meeting and event professionals' publication, Michigan Meetings + Events magazine. Mark Homuth, Boyne's director of group sales, accepted the awards on behalf of the resorts.

"This is spectacular!" said Homuth. "We are very proud of our resorts, our extensive year-round offerings and the dedication of our team. For Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands and The Inn at Bay Harbor-A Renaissance Golf Resort to each take home top honors, well, we couldn't be happier."

Best Resort winner, Boyne Mountain, was praised for its wide array of activities from skiing, splashing and sliding, to golf, tennis, hiking, biking and more. The resort's more than 5,000 acre grounds provide endless opportunity for entertaining after the business is done. Two indoor pleasures not to be missed - Avalanche Bay, Michigan's largest indoor waterpark offers attractions suited for adult and child alike, and the destination Solace Spa with 19 treatment rooms, an indoor-outdoor pool, extensive fitness facilities, salon, and private women's and men's cedar saunas, whirlpool tubs and steam rooms. General Manager of Graff Chevrolet of Bay City and owner of Magic Bean Cafe, Lisa Kusev-Rechsteiner, applauded Steven Scribner of Boyne Mountain for his service saying "Steven initiated everything and got the ball rolling…Our group was treated so well that I decided to have my Team Leader Retreat for the Magic Bean Cafe at Boyne Mountain as well."

Boyne Highlands Resort is no stranger to the Best Golf Venue award, now a winner two consecutive years. The famed resort was featured in The Golf Channel's "Big Break X: Michigan," filmed last summer and lures guests with 72 holes of championship golf including the Heather course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the modern Arthur Hills course, The Moor and Donald Ross Memorial. The resort's Scottish charm is highlighted with castle-like turrets, detailed stonework, sounds of bagpipes and equestrian facilities. Numerous accommodations and cuisine, a free par-3 course, abundant hiking and biking trails and the popular Young Americans Dinner Theatre round out the resort's appeal.

The Best Hotel with Meeting Space (200 guest rooms or less division) was awarded to The Inn at Bay Harbor - A Renaissance Golf Resort. The stunning lakeside resort is positioned along the shores of Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay and has made the list of the 500 World's Best Hotels by Travel + Leisure in both 2008 and 2009 and was awarded Silver Medal Status by Golf magazine. The resort rekindles the heritage and style of great turn-of-the-century northern Michigan inns and provides a level of service, attention to detail, and creativity that transforms an ordinary event into a Renaissance experience to be savored.

Michigan Meetings + Events is published four times a year by Tiger Oak Publications and is circulated to approximately 18,000 planners, suppliers and related professionals.
