Senior PGA Championship to greet 32-strong foreign contingent

The 67th Senior PGA Championship will be played May 25-28, 2006, at Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond, Okla.

Veteran Tour professional Isao Aoki will head an eight-member contingent from Japan, the largest group among 32 international players representing 11 countries in the 67th Senior PGA Championship, May 25-28, 2006, at Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond, Okla.

Aoki, 63, the winner of 73 career events, including 56 on his home circuit in Japan, is the only Japanese player to have won on six different Tours. In 1983, he became the first Japanese player to win a PGA Tour event, capturing the Hawaiian Open.

Aoki earned the nickname "Tower," as in the Tokyo Tower, due to his 6-foot tall stature. He will be making his 14th appearance in the Senior PGA Championship.

The international roster features 32 players representing 11 countries. The international list includes three-time Senior PGA Champion and two-time PGA Champion Gary Player of South Africa, who is making his 21st Senior PGA appearance.

The Senior PGA Championship was begun in 1937, at Augusta National Golf Club at the invitation of legendary Bobby Jones, and has since featured the game’s legendary stars that have reached the age of 50.
