MapMuse tells locations of golf courses, shops, instructors online

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 10, 2006) -- MapMuse.com, an Internet mapping website, has recently added golf courses, golf shops, and golf instructors to its interactive mapping services. There are presently over 18,000 golf courses, 8,000 golf shops, and 2900 golf instructors included on the MapMuse maps. A typical entry provides the name of a golf course, shop or instructor, descriptive text, a photo, visitor contact information, and a link to a website. The golf courses map also provides additional criteria including the course type, back tee yardage, back tee slope, year built, and green fees.

The golf topics maps were initially researched and developed by MapMuse and introduced earlier this year. After the launch of the golf topics, MapMuse received a lot of additional information from visitors including enhanced descriptions, places that had closed, and places that were missed. It quickly became apparent that the people with the best information on local golf courses, shops and instructors were the golfers themselves. Taking that into consideration, MapMuse developed a process whereby visitors to the MapMuse website could update the maps themselves. Golfers were encouraged to add rich, descriptive information about their favorite courses and shops, and to add places that were missed, in an ongoing effort to create the most comprehensive and useful maps for everyone.

Visitors can easily add places, edit existing information, or remove places through links located on the site. When a visitor suggests a change to a map, MapMuse reviews the suggestion for appropriateness, and then posts it within a few hours. Since the introduction of this feature, the response has been tremendous- golf enthusiasts have made hundreds of updates and enhancements to the maps.

MapMuse.com is a highly trafficked mapping website with an Alexa traffic rating of approximately 11,500 in the world. MapMuse’s goal is to help people find places related to their interests, both at home and on their travels. MapMuse continues to add new topics of interest each week. If you have a topic that you would like to see mapped (golf related or not), you can suggest the interest on the MapMuse site, and there is a good chance it will be addressed.
