The Arkansas State Golf Association will posthumously honor Bobby McGee, CGCS, when he becomes part of the 16th class of the Arkansas Golf Hall of Fame in a ceremony in Little Rock, Ark., on Oct. 29.

McGee was a 37-year member of GCSAA prior to his death in 2005 and considered by many to be the "dean" of Arkansas golf course superintendents. He was active in the GCSA of Arkansas, served as president, and received that organization's first Distinguished Service Award in 2003. McGee helped establish the Arkansas Turfgrass Association and was superintendent at the Country Club of Little Rock and at North Hills Country Club in Sherwood, Ark.

He oversaw the 1976 U.S. Open while serving as superintendent at Atlanta Athletic Club. In addition, he designed courses in Arkansas, including Glenwood Country Club and Cooper's Hawk, and served on the USGA Green Section Committee for more than 20 years.

His son Rob McGee said of his father's honor, "Dad devoted much of his life to golf and the golf industry. We are very proud of him and his accomplishments. He has received many honors and awards, but this is truly one of the most special ones. He would be very honored as a superintendent, as a designer, but mostly as a golfer, to be included with such a great group of honorees. We are very proud that the ASGA has chosen to recognize and honor him with his induction in the Hall of Fame."
