CLEVELAND -- Corporate clients of River City Hospitality, LLC, are being entertained this week at the Masters Golf Tournament. River City's president and CEO Stephen Wilson talked with Golf Event about how he became involved with the premier golf outing and how corporate entertainment has evolved during the last decade.
"Corporate entertainment has changed dramatically over the last 10-plus years," Wilson says. "As more providers have entered the marketplace, successful firms have gotten more competitive, both on price and in terms of services provided. Those that have not adapted to the changing market conditions have suffered. Some have gone under. The current economic situation has only magnified the importance of being competitive. The winner in all of this has been the client. They are now receiving more for less."

"While the golf industry may be experiencing some tightening regarding people reevaluating memberships, and the time constraints of participating in golf leagues, individual buying decisions, etc., golf as a means to get people together remains an effective tool," says Brad Seybert, president of Golf Event Media. "The reality in these times, is that people's time remains valuable. Golf is a unique medium as it is an excellent tool to build relationships. Whether by attending a PGA Tour event, or by playing in a corporate or charitable outing, those experiences with business associates or friends create memories that also form a bond. There are very few sporting events that can both be enjoyed in business by either being a spectator or participant. Very few CEOs will accept your offer for a quick tackle football game, but will consider spending some time with you playing golf, or attending a special event such as the Masters. I am confident that golf will continue to play a role as a key element for people's ability to conduct business today, as well as in the future."
