Turning Stone in N.Y. names Robert Todd golf services director

Robert Todd has been named Director of Golf Services at the Oneida Indian Nation’s Turning Stone Resort and Casino. A PGA member since 1988, Todd has extensive experience at upscale resorts.

For the last four years, he was head golf professional at Grand Traverse Resort and Casinos in Acme, Mich. The American Indian-owned resort has three 18-hole courses and is home to the Michigan Open and it hosted the 1990 Ameritech Senior PGA event.

Prior to that, Todd was interim director of golf and head golf professional at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., site of the Accenture World Golf Championships.

He also served as head professional at the Mountain and Dunes Courses at La Quinta Resort and Spa in La Quinta, Calif. The famous nine-course resort -- six PGAWest courses and three La Quinta courses -- has hosted several professional events, including the Bob Hope Desert Classic, the Senior Skins Game and the PGA Club Professional Championship (CPC).

After earning his PGA card, Todd was a playing professional for three years, competing on the Ben Hogan Tour (now the Nationwide Tour) and the East Coast, JC Goosie, Spalding Space Coast, South Florida and North Florida tours.

A native of Trumansburg, N.Y., Todd’s first stint as a club professional was at the Wellsville Country Club in Wellsville, N.Y. He is also a former golf coach at Alfred University.

In his new role, Todd oversees golf operations at the premier golf destination in the Northeast. Turning Stone offers three 18-hole courses; Atunyote, designed by Tom Fazio; Kaluhyat; created by Robert Trent Jones Jr.; and Shenendoah; designed by Rick Smith. In addition, there are two nine-hole options as well as the Turning Stone Golf Academy and an indoor Golf Training Center.

Turning Stone is the annual home of the New York State PGA Championship, with this year’s event scheduled for May 22-24.

Next month, 312 golf professionals from across the country will converge on Turning Stone for the PGA Professional National Championship (formerly the CPC). The top 20 finishers will earn spots in the PGA Championship. Portions of all four rounds, scheduled for June 22-25, will be televised by The Golf Channel.

The Oneida Indian Nation’s Turning Stone Resort and Casino is the premier four-season, destination resort in Upstate New York, conveniently located about 30 miles east of Syracuse at NYS Thruway exit 33.
