ORLANDO, Fla. -- Famed PGA West Golf Club will headline the roster of courses scheduled to host the 2009 Golf Channel Amateur Tour National Championships, Sept. 21 - 27, in La Quinta, Calif.
PGA West's Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course, Greg Norman Course and Stadium joins La Quinta Resort & Club's Mountain Course, SilverRock Resort, Trilogy Golf Club at La Quinta and Mountain View Country Club hosting the 2009 National Championships. They have a combined resume boasting the Bob Hope Classic, the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament, The PGA Grand Slam of Golf and The Skins Game. La Quinta Resort, long recognized as a "Celebrity Hideaway," will serve as the tournament headquarters and the host resort for the national championships.
"The reputations of the tournament courses and host resort are tremendous, and we look forward to providing a first-class experience for our Amateur Tour members at the 2009 National Championships," said Kenny Booth, director of events for Golf Channel.
The Golf Channel Amateur Tour provides golfers of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to compete in local, regional and national golf tournaments at top facilities and golf destinations nationwide. Culminating the 2009 season will be the National Championships, broken up into the Golf Channel Amateur Tour Senior National Championship (50 years of age or older) and the Open National Championship Sept. 21 - 25, followed by the Team Championship, Sept. 26 - 27.
PGA West's Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course, a co-host for the final stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament, is one of the only courses in the world that features two island greens. The Greg Norman Course, co-host for the 2006 and 2007 PGA Tour Pre-Qualifying Tournament, sits on a prehistoric ocean bed 40 feet below sea level. The Stadium Course, PGA West's crown jewel, is rated as one of the "Top 100 Courses in the World" by Golf Magazine and the fourth toughest course in the United States by Golf Digest. The Stadium Course also is co-host to the final stage of PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament, the original host of the made-for-TV Skins Game and a past host of the Bob Hope Classic.
Rounding out the roster of host courses include the Mountain Course at La Quinta Resort & Club, a nine-time host to the PGA Professional National Championship; SilverRock Resort, one of the host courses to the Bob Hope Classic; Trilogy Golf Club at La Quinta, rated one of America's top courses by Golf Digest; and Mountain View Country Club, an Arnold Palmer signature course.
National Championship participants will once again have the opportunity to meet and interact with many of Golf Channel's anchors and reporters who will be on-site at select courses.
