CHATSWORTH, Calif. — The most-anticipated Long Drivers of America (LDA) event of the year, this weekend’s RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship spotlighted the world’s longest hitters and showcased the industry’s most advanced driver technology. Stealing the show, however, was the beta titanium Version 2 driver — designed and manufactured by Alpha Golf — the only driver at the event to win two World Long Drive Championship titles.
Fred Hooter and Sally Dee, both using an Alpha Version 2 driver, won the Super Senior and Women’s titles at this weekend’s RE/MAX World Championship in Mesquite, Nev. The victories affirmed Alpha Golf as the only golf club manufacturer to win multiple titles this year at the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.
At 61 years of age, Hooter used an Alpha Version 2 driver (425cc) to blast a 327-yard,17-inch drive to defend his 2003 championship title among Super Seniors. Competing in Long Drive since 1979, Hooter is perhaps the most experienced Long Drive player actively competing on the Long Drivers of America (LDA) Tour, and has previously won the RE/MAX World Long Drive Senior Champion title in 1999 and the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship (Super Senior division) in 2003.
Not to be outdone by the Alpha males, Sally Dee also wielded a Version 2 driver (425cc) to slam a 291-yard drive, out-distancing her nearest opponent by nearly 25 yards. A former LPGA player and two-time New York State Girls champion, Dee won on the LDA Tour earlier this year in Rochester and has more than earned her position as the Number One woman Long Drive player in the world today.
“We’re very excited for Fred and Sally,” says Jim Yeh, president and chief clubhead designer of Alpha Golf. “The Version 2 driver features a two-piece head construction with a forged 15-3-3-3 Beta Titanium face and it provides an extremely high coefficient of restitution for the maximum in distance performance. performance. It’s no wonder so many players are switching to Alpha drivers to maximize their distance off the tee.”
Alpha Golf’s drivers were used by 11 of the 17 finalists in the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.
Alpha Golf’s dedication to performance and distance has produced driver designs so superior that the results have attracted some of the biggest names in Long Drive. More than a half-dozen past and present RE/MAX World Long Drive champions — power hitters such as Carl Wolter, Vince Howell, Danny Luirette, Mike Gorton, Eric Jones and Pat Dempsey — and dozens more have joined the Alpha Team to compete in a sport most often won by feet and inches, rather than yards.
