Morgan Gregory selected to join Advisory Council of the EIG

Morgan Gregory, president of GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford, N.Y., has joined the Advisory Council of The Environmental Institute for Golf, the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).

The Advisory Council, headed by World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman, provides guidance to The Institute's board of trustees in the areas of outreach, fundraising and strategic planning. The members were selected to enhance The Institute's ability to cultivate as well as communicate the importance of the work conducted by The Institute

"Morgan and the membership at GlenArbor share The Institute's vision for environmental stewardship and conservation," Norman said. "He and his father W. Grant are true role models for the golf industry in terms of environmental awareness and we are honored to have them involved with The Institute."

GlenArbor is home to a diverse number of animals, trees, birds and aquatic species. With its many centuries-old specimen trees, nine bodies of water, creeks and numerous wetland buffers, GlenArbor continually embraces its members in splendor. Rather than remaining passive to this magnificent environment, GlenArbor has implemented an Environmental Enhancement Program that will augment the natural habitat and native species.

In formulating the club's proactive role for this Enhancement Program, GlenArbor partnered with Saski Associates - recognized within the industry as one of the world's leading authorities on wildlife conservation and environmental enhancement development. The enhancement program is large in scope and will take several years to fully execute. Already, GlenArbor has planted more than 3,000 trees and shrubs, and has installed many bluebird nesting boxes and numerous pond aerators. The Club's program includes planting food plots and natural wetland buffers using native grass species. Additionally, a comprehensive program for tree care is managed by the club's arborist.

"GlenArbor is proud to step forward as a conservation leader, and by doing so, trusts this will encourage other clubs as well," Gregory said. "We think that joining forces with The Environmental Institute for Golf will only make the environmental efforts of both parties stronger and I am thrilled to join such esteemed colleagues on the The Institute's Advisory Council."

Ken E. Benoit Jr., GCSAA certified golf course superintendent, also led GlenArbor to an environmental stewardship award from The North American Bluebird Society, a non-profit conservation, education and research organization that promotes the recovery of bluebirds and other native cavity-nesting bird species. GlenArbor began their bluebird program in the Spring of 2002 and has fledged in excess of 650 bluebirds since inception.
