PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (May 11, 2006) -- Pawleys Plantation’s Jack Nicklaus–designed golf course is rated as a four star facility in Golf Digest’s newest Best Places to Play guide which will be available on news stands this month. The prestigious guide, which is a Fodor’s Travel Publication, identifies America’s best 3,500 public and resort courses based on ballots submitted by more than 20,000 avid golfers. A four-star rated course is defined as “Outstanding. Plan your next vacation around it.”
Golfers were asked to judge more than 8,000 golf courses based on five specific criteria: overall golf experience, the value for the money, the standard of service at the facility, the overall conditioning of the course and the normal pace of play for an 18-hole round. In comments submitted with the ballots, Pawleys Plantation is described as a “long and beautiful” course that “might have the best par 3s on the coast.”
“It’s wonderful to be rated so highly by avid golfers,’’ said Jann Walker, director of marketing at Pawleys Plantation. “Our course is a very dramatic design and we are fortunate to have some spectacular natural views of the salt-water marsh and beyond. In addition, I think the four-star rating reflects the impact that ValleyCrest has had on our golf course maintenance. They have taken Jack Nicklaus’ exciting course design to new levels of conditioning, improving the entire golf experience at Pawleys Plantation.”
ValleyCrest Golf Course Maintenance entered into a long-term agreement with Pawleys Plantation in 2005. One of the golf industry’s leading golf course maintenance companies, ValleyCrest was retained to provide comprehensive golf course and landscape maintenance services.
