Play Golf America event held in National Hockey League arena

Led by 14 PGA Professionals of the Tennessee PGA Section, a Play Golf America event was held for the first time in an arena of the National Hockey League, Dec. 6, in Nashville, Tenn.

The Nashville Predators hosted the event, with some 500 spectators working on their games and receiving free lessons from PGA Professionals. The event also featured an appearance by PGA Tour professional and Nashville native, Brandt Snedeker.

Four hitting bays, provided by the Dixie, Gulf States and Kentucky PGA Sections, were positioned both inside and outside the arena.

"Working with the Nashville Predators has been an entirely new way for us to view growing the game of golf," said Tennessee PGA Section Tournament Director Todd Havron. "Bringing golf to the end consumer that otherwise would never have been touched by the game is what it is truly about. I cannot thank our PGA instructors, volunteers, and the Predators enough for making this event a reality.

"The portable hitting bays are the future to exposing golf to the public. Capturing a built-in sports-minded audience was a key to the night's success. The challenge is ensuring the consumer has a place to continue their golf interest after their initial exposure. This is where the PGA Professionals must embrace the concept and welcome these new consumers to the game through Play Golf America events at their facilities."

The NHL venue follows a year in which Play Golf America events visited the Women's National Basketeball Association, NBA and NASCAR arenas.

Begun in 2004, Play Golf America is an industry-wide national marketing campaign developed and led by The PGA of America to increase participation among new and existing golfers and to grow the number of people who play the game.
