ORLANDO, Fla. -- The First Tee, a World Golf Foundation initiative, has touched the lives of more than 2 million young men and women around the world through the game of golf since its inception in 1997. Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET, Celebrating The First Tee will pay tribute to this initiative.
The one-hour Golf Channel special presentation will feature two signature events benefiting The First Tee initiative in 2008, with in-depth stories on several young men and women from First Tee Chapters around the world. The First Tee's mission is to provide learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
Hosted by 17-year-old Randon Holt of The First Tee of Atlanta, the special will go inside-the-ropes to the Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach on the Champions Tour and the Golf Channel Invitational for The First Tee at Callaway Gardens, Ga.
Featured in the special include Martavious Adams (First Tee of East Lake), who hit the ceremonial tee shot at the 2008 Tour Championship presented by Coca-Cola; Xavier Hereford, a 13-year-old with The First Tee of Huntsville, who is helping introduce The First Tee program to area schools; Sydney Burlison (First Tee of Monterey County, Calif.), one of the top junior golfers in the country and Gabriel Bell (First Tee of St. Johns County, Fla.), who overcame his little brother passing away due to Leukemia with the help of The First Tee.
Also featured in the show will be a group of First Tee members from the Metropolitan New York chapter who participated at both the GOLF CHANNEL Invitational for The First Tee and the Barclays Cup Tri-Match in Massachusetts in August.
In 2008, GOLF CHANNEL expanded its longtime support of The First Tee by becoming the title sponsor of the GOLF CHANNEL Invitational for The First Tee, a premiere national golf tournament that draws more than 30 participants from Alabama, Georgia, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee and Mississippi First Tee chapters. The event featured a youth clinic hosted by LGPA professional and GOLF CHANNEL analyst Rosie Jones.
Celebrating The First Tee will re-air Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 1 p.m. ET.
