PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- The 2009 PGA Junior Series will celebrate its 14th consecutive year of providing affordable and competitive golf for juniors ages 13-18, featuring five new sites in an 11-state summer coast-to-coast schedule. Entrants can apply on-line at PGAJuniorSeries.com beginning in February.
The PGA Junior Series opens at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky., May 26-28, and concludes Aug. 10-11, at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn.
The summer's schedule features five 54-hole (three-day) and six 36-hole (two-day) competitions, as well as the 72-hole flagship event, the 34th Junior PGA Championship at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio (near Cincinnati), July 28-31. The first nine events will serve as Junior PGA Championship qualifiers.
The five new venues on the PGA Junior Series schedule include: Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids, Minn., Eagle Eye Golf Club in East Lansing, Mich., Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, and Arbor Links in Nebraska City, Neb.
Also planned for next summer's schedule are PGM/career awareness promotions at the Kentucky, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania sites.
Nationally recognized by both the Golfweek Sagarin Points System and Junior Golf Scoreboard, the PGA Junior Series debuted in the summer of 1996. The program has attracted boys and girls representing 50 states, the District of Columbia, 24 countries/territories and six continents.
Each series event will feature a field of approximately 156 players. Juniors may enter as many events as they wish. The event fields are based on playing ability and are not first-come, first-served.
Each event will consist of boys' and girls' divisions, with approximately one-half of the field consisting of competitors residing within the host PGA Section of the competition. The 16-18 division boys' winner and the overall girls' winner of all events will receive an exemption to play in the 34th Junior PGA Championship July 2009.
