Amex's Arway to head Australian business

Oct. 30, 2004 – Pam Arway, vice president and general manager of American Express' North American corporate travel business, has said that she has agreed to take a new job within Amex as head of its business in Australia.

Arway, who described the new job to Business Travel News as "a fabulous opportunity," will remain in her current post until January. Meanwhile, the company is doing an internal search to find her replacement.

Arway said that in her new role she will report to Jim Bush, who runs the Asia/Pacific region and reports to Ed Gilligan. Arway called Australia "a wonderful market that is one of the highest performing," and noted that consumer card currently dominates the business there. Arway also described the team in Australia as "terrific, from what I know" and said, "I look at my job there as to continue the momentum that they have developed."

Arway said that not many people could uproot themselves to make such a move, but that she and her husband look forward to the adventure of learning a new region and a climate that affords the Canadian couple the year-round opportunity to play golf.
