POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Pound Ridge Golf Club, the first New York course designed by legendary architect Pete Dye and his son Perry, has been rated as one of the Best New Public Courses of 2008 by GOLF Magazine. The heralded high-end daily fee course finished second in the rankings to the #1 candidate, The Golf Club at Tetherow, Bend, Oregon. The publication's annual review of the Best New Courses of 2008 appears in the January 2009 issue. Pound Ridge is called a "combination of beauty and brutality that echoes Whistling Straits and Kiawah Island's Ocean Course...that also captivates from beginning to end thanks to a succession of vividly memorable holes."
"For Pound Ridge Golf Club to be recognized by Golf Magazine as the second-best new public-access courses of the year is a distinction that validates the exceptional commitment that Pete Dye gave us when he agreed to craft this classic," said owner Ken Wang. "We have an exceptional golf course that provides wonderful service to all golfers. Pete's extraordinary strategic skills are evident at Pound Ridge and show that he is one of history's finest architects. Everyone associated with Pound Ridge Golf Club is very proud to receive this most special recognition."
GOLF Magazine's annual survey of the Top 10 Best New Courses You Can Play is conducted with input from their expert course-ranking panelists, editors and "spies in the field." Panelists rate courses based on shot values, design variety, resistance to scoring, memorability and aesthetics.
