Bolingbrook Golf Club student earns European Senior Tour card

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. -- Greg Towne, a student of Bolingbrook Golf Club PGA Master Teaching Professional Carl Rabito, will be fully exempt on the 2009 European Senior Tour following his 50th birthday in May, thanks to his fifth place finish at the qualifying event held recently at Portugal's Pestana Golf Resort.

Towne, a former commercial banker who calls Bolingbrook Golf Club his home course, has competed on the Nationwide Tour and several mini-tours and was leading the qualifier heading into the final round. He was one of 14 players to earn a spot on next season's Tour.

"I am extremely proud of Greg," said Rabito. "He has worked very hard to get to this point in his career."

Towne, who not only is a student of Rabito, but has worked for him as an instructor, recognizes the influence that Rabito has had on both his golf game and his life.

"I owe a large debt of gratitude to Carl," said Towne. "He has been both a great coach and a mentor to me."

And perhaps it was also a bit of creative shot-making that helped him make it over the hump. Towne said that his approach shot on the 14th hole of the third round was one of the best he'd ever played.

"My drive went into a crease where there was an old drain and I had a horrible lie," he said. "I didn't get any relief so I hit a hook shoot with my sand wedge into the bank of the bunker and it almost went into the hole. From not having a shot I managed to birdie the hole. It was one of the best shots I've played in a long time." Towne then birdied the 15th and 16th en route to a 69 and a three shot lead heading into the final round of the qualifier.

Rabito, a GOLF Magazine Top 100 Instructor, and his staff, who have called Bolingbrook Golf Club home since 2004, work with a number of touring professionals and top-ranked amateurs. An expert in human anatomy, physiology and kinesiology, Rabito's unique approach to the golf swing ties together the student's physical abilities with specific body movements and swing mechanics to make a solid, repeatable golf swing.
