Bob Hope Classic Shop in Old Town La Quinta prepares to open

LA QUINTA, Calif. -- The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic announces the grand opening of the Bob Hope Classic Shop in Old Town La Quinta on Friday, Nov. 28, the day after Thanksgiving. The new Classic Girls will be making their first pubic appearance on opening day.

The museum and retail store, managed by long-time golf retailer Lumpy's, will showcase memorabilia from the last 50 years of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic celebrity golf tournament, including Hope's famous caricature golf cart. Guests are encouraged to bring their cameras into the museum.

The store will feature a special line of 50th Anniversary clothing and other unique gift items — perfect for holiday shopping. Many one-of-a-kind commemorative items will also be on sale. All types of tickets to the tournament will be offered at the store as well.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic — it's a 'hole in one' for both Old Town La Quinta and the Tournament," Leslie Locken, property manager of Old Town La Quinta.

"We're pleased to be providing a prime location storefront right on La Quinta's Main Street which will give the Tournament excellent exposure right in the heart of town. And we're excited about the promotional opportunities Old Town will receive in return, as this new store will attract more visitors and residents to the shops, restaurants, salons and services of Old Town La Quinta," she added.

"We're excited to have the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic tournament here for the second year," said La Quinta Mayor Don Adolph. "The opportunity for the City to have three of the four courses in this year's tournament played in La Quinta is good for the City and the community. We hope it will encourage spectators to stay, eat and play in our wonderful city."

The Bob Hope Classic Shop will be open Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. On opening day, the shop will open at 9 a.m.

Arnold Palmer will host the 50th Anniversary of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, to be played Jan. 19-25, 2009. Palmer has played the tournament 42 of its 50 years and has also won five of his 62 PGA TOUR titles there, including his last. Palmer is as much a staple of La Quinta and the Coachella Valley as the tournament itself.

Since the inception of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in 1960, the tournament has donated nearly $47 million to charities throughout La Quinta and the entire Coachella Valley. For further details, visit www.bhcc.com or call (888) MR-BHOPE (672-4673).
