SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. -- Representatives from Dataw Island Club announced that a recent golf tournament held on the island to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project raised more than $10,000.
The tournament was sponsored by Dataw Island residents and the local Beaufort, S.C. chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a Congressionally chartered veteran's organization for personnel awarded the Purple Heart Medal by the United States government. All proceeds raised through the tournament will go toward benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project, which assists men and women of armed forces who have been severely injured in combat.
More than 130 members and guests competed in the tournament, which was a two best-ball format comprised of teams of four and played on Dataw's Cotton Dike course.
"We are very proud of our members who took part in the recent Wounded Warrior tournament and helped to raise such a large sum of money to help United States veterans," said Silvia Lalinde, director of membership and marketing of Dataw Island Club. "Hosting charity outings such as this is a positive way to pay tribute and assist those who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms."
