Former president of the GCSAA James W. Brandt dies at age 83

GCSAA Past President James W. Brandt, CGCS, passed away April 20 at age 83. He was president of the association in 1968. He was the recipient of the GCSAA Distinguished Service Award in 1989.

He is survived by his wife Maxine, daughter Mary Beth and son, Robert A. Brandt of St. Charles, Mo. Also grandchildren, Blake Brandt and Nicole and Tyler McCoy.

Jim was a charter member and past president 1954-59 of the Central Illinois GCSA and president of Midwest Regional Turf Foundation in 1958. He was co-founder of the Illinois Turf Grass Foundation serving as president in 1962-63. He also served on the agriculture advisory board at Danville Area Community College.

He retired as golf course superintendent at Danville Country Club in 1988 after 35 years.
