Kiel Christianson: Former golf mystery writer Roberta Isleib expands her non-golf mysteries

Mystery writer Roberta Isleib, creator of the Cassandra Burdette golf mystery series (Six Strokes Under, A Buried Lie, Putt to Death, Fairway to Heaven, Final Fore), concluded her popular golf-related series a couple of years ago.

And her cadre of loyal golf-mystery fans mourned, despite the exceedingly high note upon which Cassie Burdette made her exit from sleuthing.

Isleib's newest series of mysteries focuses on advice-columnist Dr. Rebecca Butterman, who is led into the lives (and deaths) of her readers and others in her life.

Isleib, who is a clinical psychologist herself, spins intricate plots and draws convincing characters. If you enjoyed her golf mysteries, her advice-column mysteries (Deadly Advice, Preaching to the Corpse, Asking for Murder) are well worth a read.

And golf fans, take heart. Isleib hasn't forgotten about golf all together. In a recent e-mail, she told me, "There is a scene on the golf course in [Asking for Murder]! Rebecca's boyfriend sets up a 9-hole match with his parents--first time they'll meet. It's a disaster of course!"

Maybe someday, Rebecca will hire Cassie Burdette to give her golf lessons, and the two can team up to solve a case…
