Kelly's Adult Junior Open event raises funds for Meals on Wheels

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Desert Willow Golf Resort located in Palm Desert, Calif., announced that the Kelly's Adult Junior Open held on September 21, raised nearly $7,000 for The Joslyn Senior Center "Meals on Wheels" program. The host, Palm Desert Councilman Dick Kelly, presented Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack as the 2008 Honorary Chairperson for the event.

Organized by the Palm Desert Youth Committee and its volunteers, the tournament provided a forum for adults and juniors to come together for a Sunday afternoon of golf at Desert Willow Golf Resort, all for a great cause. The money raised from the Kelly's Adult Junior Open was made possible with the sponsorship support of more than 15 companies including, DavisReed Construction, College of the Desert, and the Cathedral City Police Department, among others. Councilman Dick Kelly said, "this event could not have been as successful without the sponsors and participants who not only gave of their money but their time."

Community involvement played a key role in the outing, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack said. "The Palm Desert Adult/Junior Open was a tremendous success, and I commend Dick Kelly and the Palm Desert Youth Committee for their efforts in putting on this event and their ongoing commitment to helping others. Because of volunteers' dedication and involvement, the Joslyn Meals on Wheels program now has more resources to continue its outstanding service to our community. "

The money raised for The Joslyn Senior Center was designed for its Meals on Wheels program which delivers prepared meals to seniors over the age of 60 who are unable to cook meals for themselves due to physical or social reasons. Many times, the volunteer delivering meals will be the only personal contact that is made with the senior each day. An average of 75 individuals receive food daily with over 19,000 meals delivered annually. Grants and donations such as this years' Kelly's Adult Junior Open help cover the cost for those seniors that cannot afford to pay.
