Golf Environment Europe is renamed Golf Environment Organisation

Golf Environment Europe has become the Golf Environment Organisation with a new brand, organizational structure as well as newly defined vision, mission, aims and objectives.

The review concluded that the organization should evolve in line with the evolution of environmental awareness in golf, and the global environmental agenda.

Chairman Bjorn Nordberg said, "The environmental movement in golf has come a long way in recent years, and we felt a responsibility to mirror that by re-considering our values and position. These changes set us up for the next phase of our development, and to deliver our fresh vision - that golf will achieve international recognition for enhancing environmental quality and human wellbeing."

George O'Grady, chief executive of the European Tour, supported the move as did Peter Dawson, secretary of the R&A.

The organization is currently working on a new web site that will allow diverse audiences to discover golf and environment, understand the technical issues, improve their performance, and through which golf facilities can become environmentally certified. This is due to go live in November 2008. In the meantime, find out more at the GEO temporary Web site www.golfenvironment.org.
