If you're in Las Vegas on a golf trip, you want to have wheels. It's not quite as important as holding the ability to forgo all sleep to get maximum night life enjoyment, but it's close.

Sin City is one of those places that tempts first-time visitors with the impression that a car is as superfluous as tops on a nude beach. Much like cars are in Manhattan. And they are ... as long as you stay on one street, The Strip.

But golfing is going to take you beyond that. Especially if you do golfing right. You want to be able to check out The Falls at Lake Las Vegas. You need to be able to discover secret underrated courses like Painted Desert.

Attempt this by relying on cabs and you'll see the trip costs skyrocket. The $30 per day on a rental car more than proves worthwhile. Plus, Vegas cab drivers are about as unbiased as most of Sin City's major casino golf desks with their "friendly advice."

Just ask them for a strip club recommendation and you'll quickly see what this means.

You're better off as the master of your own transportation. In so many ways.

If you're afraid of driving in the big city (or one street city), if you're from Iowa in other words, or if you don't want to drive to the courses because you're a devoted 19th hole man, ask a golf packager to arrange transport.

Just don't go with the yellow. Not here. Not if you value your cash.
