PLACIDA, Fla. (April 24, 2006) -- Coral Creek Club, a highly-ranked, Tom Fazio-designed private golf club located across the causeway from Gasparilla Island and Boca Grande, today announced the official groundbreaking of its new clubhouse. Yusk Construction Company of Englewood, an award-winning custom builder, has been selected to build the new clubhouse. Designed by Naples-based David Humphrey of Humphrey-Rosal Architects, the clubhouse will reflect the essence of a world-class golf club with classic architectural lines and turn-of-the-century Florida grace. Poised for opening in the 2007 – 2008 golf season, Coral Creek Club's new 12,000 square-foot clubhouse will provide an inviting social and dining environment where members can enjoy the spirit and camaraderie of fellow members and guests.
The new clubhouse will accentuate both indoor and outdoor spaces offering members and guests views of the golf course and the surrounding natural beauty and abundant wildlife of Coral Creek, a salt-water estuary flowing to the Gulf of Mexico. The facility will feature richly- appointed, full-service men’s and ladies locker rooms each with their own lounge and card rooms, and the dining room and old world bar will offer dining to members and guests in a casually-elegant environment. Additionally, members and guests seeking an outdoor setting may relax on the verandah or dine in the gazebo, which will face the activity of the 18th green. The new clubhouse will complement Coral Creek Club’s existing Golf House in architecture and design; the Golf House will continue to house both the pro shop and additional bag storage.
“The clubhouse groundbreaking is an historic and extremely exciting time for Coral Creek Club,” said Michael Zmetrovich, chief executive officer, Trophy Golf Management. “We take great pride in offering a first-class golf experience that is challenging to experienced players yet playable and inviting for beginner golfers. Now, the new clubhouse will continue to exemplify the casual elegance and polish of Old Florida and days gone by reminiscent here at Coral Creek Club with its grandeur and exclusive level of service. It will be a magnificent addition to the club’s already outstanding facilities.”
Today’s groundbreaking follows Tom Fazio Day in February, where Coral Creek Club’s members and guests honored the world-renowned golf architect with a special golf tournament and reception. During his presentation, Fazio spoke of “one of his favorite courses of the nation.” According to Fazio, Coral Creek Club belongs in this elite group largely because of its location and setting. Due to its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, seasonal gulf winds often provide a challenging course of play.
“Coral Creek Club is a unique, one-of-a-kind golf course that doesn’t resemble any other course I have designed or any other course that exists. That makes it special,” said Fazio. “People come up to me all the time during my travels around Florida and the rest of the country and tell me they have played Coral Creek. It makes me feel good and validates the work we have done here when they say they really love the golf course and the entire club environment.”
