That wrap Vijay Singh wears on his left arm isn't for show. The 45-year-old Fijian is battling tendinitis even as he racks up wins - three in five weeks now after he blew away the rest of the field in the Deutsche Bank this holiday weekend.
The ailment's actually made Singh cut back on his usual endless hours on the practice range.
It turns out the forced break is very good for Singh's game and bank account - he's all but clinched the second FedEx Cup and the $9 million in cash that goes with it this year (someone else would have to win twice in the final two events while Vijay kept finishing close to last to have a real chance of changing the script). This is one of the few cases in sports where less practice actually means better results.
It makes you wonder just how great Vijay Singh could have been if he hadn't beat himself up by hitting balls till after the sun went down - after having finished his round in tournament after tournament year after year. Then again, he wouldn't be Vijay without this range obsession.
At least, you know that guys like Adam Scott will never have this problem.
