SHALLOTTE, N.C. (April, 12, 2006) -- Three golf courses in North Carolina’s Brunswick Islands were named among the top in their region in The Golf Travel Annual 2006. The yearly publication also named several other area courses on the list of the “Top Ten Nation’s Favorites”. The Golf Travel Annual ranks the nation’s courses in different geographical sections and uses tips and resources from top instructors and golf travel writers throughout the country.
In the Myrtle Beach sub-division of the Carolinas section in this year’s edition, Meadowlands Golf Club in Calabash and Sandpiper Bay Golf Club in Sunset Beach were noted as “Hidden Gems.” Lion’s Paw Golf Links in Ocean Isle Beach was also noted as “Player Friendly.” The Myrtle Beach sub-division recognized 20 different courses in the region.
In addition, Carolina National Golf Club in Bolivia, Angels Trace Golf Links and The Pearl Golf Links in Sunset Beach, and Marsh Harbour Golf Links in Calabash were all noted for “Best Settings.”
Lastly, two Brunswick area courses were also named in the prestigious “Top Ten Nation’s Favorites”. Tiger’s Eye Golf Links at Ocean Ridge Plantation ranked third and River’s Edge Golf Club in Shallotte ranked ninth.
The Brunswick Islands lie nearly equidistant between Wilmington, N.C. to the north and Myrtle Beach, S.C. to the south. Situated along North Carolina’s southernmost stretch of coastline, the islands claim over 45 miles of beachfront. The region includes the islands of Bald Head Island, Caswell Beach, Holden Beach, Oak Island, Ocean Isle, Sunset Beach and many neighboring port and inland towns. With some of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast, award-winning golf, historical sites and numerous family attractions and outdoor activities, the Brunswick Islands remain one of the rare, unspoiled beachfront destinations on the East Coast.
