After months of speculation, Swallow Hotels is delighted to announce its acquisition of Carnoustie Hotel. The news strengthens Swallow’s position as the largest hotel group in Scotland following its latest six acquisitions across the country, which include Gleddoch House Hotel in Renfrewshire, three Freedom of the Glen hotels in the Western Highlands and the Huntly Arms in Aboyne.
Situated close to Dundee, Carnoustie Hotel is one of Scotland’s finest luxury golfing, leisure and conference destinations. The hotel began trading as Swallow Carnoustie last month (16th March).
“This is great news for Carnoustie,” comments Hotel Director Iain Fleming. “We will be taking a review of the hotel to see what improvements we can make. It’s been a very successful hotel for many years and we intend building on that by introducing the Swallow way of working which guarantees maximum satisfaction for all our customers.”
The resort, located immediately adjoining the first tee and 18th green of the world famous Carnoustie Championship course, was host to the 1999 Open Championship and is recognised as having some of the most challenging and stimulating golf anywhere in the world.
The 4 star hotel has 85 bedrooms, including 10 suites, as well as a top class restaurant and bar which offers an award-winning menu. A pro shop, as well spa and conference facilities for up to 350 delegates are also on site.
Guests can take advantage of the health spa with its large swimming pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpool. A host of therapeutic treatments are also available and there is a fully equipped gym on site.
Chief Executive of Swallow Hotels Peter Gray explains, “Including the latest acquisitions, Swallow Hotels now has 67 properties in Scotland. We are aiming to have 100 hotels by the end of the year and so far we are well on track to achieve that. The latest deals are in line with Swallow's plans to continue its commitment to growth within Scotland.
“We already own a wide range of hotels, which are enjoyed by thousands of customers, offering exceptional standards of service, wide range of facilities and affordable prices with no hidden extras. These new acquisitions will give our customers an even greater choice in key locations across Scotland.”
Tom Graham, Swallow Hotels Operations Director for Scotland adds, “The new acquisitions will also benefit our staff as they will now have even more opportunities to develop and grow within the business. Underpinning the acquisitions, we are also building on the infrastructure supporting the estate and this year we will be investing heavily in staff training and development through programmes like the Chefs’ Academy, a comprehensive management training programme and a staff training programme. We have also introduced a great new staff benefit package and a staff bonus scheme. No wonder we are attracting some of the highest calibre staff from a variety of our competitors.”
“I am very excited by the new challenge,” concludes Iain. “We have a team of dedicated staff whose attention to detail and impeccable service has personally ensured that thousands of guests have had their highest expectations met. Now that Swallow has landed in Carnoustie I’m confident that the level of service and quality can only fly higher.”
