2006 Paul W. Smith Golf Classic will benefit Think Detroit PAL

DETROIT -- The 2006 Paul W. Smith Golf Classic will be Monday, August 21 at the Detroit Golf Club, a 219-acre club that features two beautifully wooded courses. The tournament is expected to be one of the top fundraisers of the year for Think Detroit PAL, a non-profit organization that relies on contributions from individual donors, foundations and corporations.

More than 70 sponsors and 260 golfers enjoyed an excellent day of golf at the 2005 Paul W. Smith golf tournament. The event netted more than $290,000, a recording breaking amount, for the Detroit Police Athletic League.

This year, Detroit PAL has merged with Think Detroit to form Think Detroit PAL. Think Detroit PAL, in partnership with the Detroit Police Department and community volunteers, builds character in young people through athletic, academic and leadership development programs, serving nearly 13,000 kids with the help of 1,500 volunteers.

Title Sponsor News/Talk 760 WJR returns with Ford Motor Company, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan as Presenting Sponsors. Joining as Presenting Sponsor this year is Compuware Corporation.

The Paul W. Smith Golf Classic will feature two shotgun starts on the North and South courses, respectively. The afternoon will conclude with a cocktail reception, strolling buffet dinner and awards presentation.
