Joan McDonald joins Equinox Resort as head pro of Gleneagles

MANCHESTER, Vt. (April 5, 2006) -- The Equinox Resort & Spa in Manchester, Vermont announces the appointment of Joan McDonald to head golf professional of The Gleneagles Golf Course at The Equinox. McDonald, a Class A LPGA Professional and a PGA Level I, was previously the head golf professional at Morefar Golf Club in New York.

As Head Golf Professional, McDonald will oversee all golf-related operations at the par-71 course, which measures 6,423 yards from the back tees and is one of the Northeast’s most highly decorated courses.

“Joan has an excellent history of managing and assisting the golf operations at some of the country’s most renowned courses,” said Tim Madden, Director of Golf. “She is devoted to the game of golf and is committed to providing the best possible golfing experience to our members and guests.”

McDonald has an impressive resume. She has served on the professional staffs of such premier golf clubs as Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY, Indian Creek CC in Bal Harbor, FL, and Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, FL. Most recently, McDonald served as Head Golf Professional at Morefar Golf Club in Brewster, NY. She is also an accomplished player who has competed in the Women’s US Open on three occasions, as well as numerous LPGA Tour and Future’s Tour events. McDonald is a Class A LPGA Professional and a graduate of Ohio University.

The Gleneagles Golf Course at the Equinox Resort & Spa, a repeat recipient of Golf Magazine's prestigious Silver Medal Award, has also recently received praise from Golf Week, where the course was named as one of America's Best. Gleneagles was also rated the #1 Golf Resort in the Northeast and #35 in North America by the readers of Condé Nast Magazine. Built in 1927 by Walter Travis the 18-hole championship-quality golf course combines a dramatic blend of the past and present in a picturesque mountain setting and continues to play an important role in the development of the Equinox as a resort destination. A $3.5 million restoration in 1992 by renowned golf-course architect Rees Jones brought the course to modern standards within the context of Travis’s original routing while following an environmentally friendly approach.
